1. Insert the Asante FriendlyNET AeroLAN AL1 21 1 -DP card in the computer s

PCMCIA slot. Windows XP will automatically detect new hardware and

display the New Hardware Found screen. Select Install from a list or Specific

Location Advanced. Insert your Asante AL1000 Series AeroLAN Wireless

CD in your CD-ROM drive. Click Next.

Asante Wireless Utility. The following configuration steps assume you are using

the Asante Wireless Utility as your wireless setup.

1. To open the Asante Wireless Utility click on the red A or green A in the

3. To configure the AeroLAN wireless card, click on the Configuration tab.

4. By default the Profile Name is Default. The Network Name is ANY. These

setting typically allow you to connect to ANY wireless network without further

modifications to the Configuration settings. If you have multiple wireless

networks you can create a Profile Name with unique settings for each

wireless network. You can change the wireless Network Name SSID to

match your existing wireless network, and choose between the Network types

of Access Point and Peer to Peer. You can also modify the Transmit Rate

5. Click on the Encryption tab. By default Encryption WEP security is

disabled. To use WEP encryption you must also have WEP encryption

installed on the other wireless Ethernet devices on your network. They must

all use either 64-bit or 128-bit encryption. The WEP encryption keys must all

match. You can use either hexadecimal or alphanumeric encryption keys.

NOTE: Asante recommends that you do not enable WEP encryption on new

802.11b wireless network installations until you have established that all wireless

802.11b Ethernet devices are working without WEP encryption enabled. Once

wireless network communication is working, then enable WEP encryption on all

wireless Ethernet devices if wireless WEP encryption is desired.
